2009 Spring/Summer "Welcome Letter From the
President"
Dear Members and Friends,
It looks like the cold weather is finally giving way to spring. I
hope all is well with everyone. The 2009 summer season is fast
approaching; let’s hope for some great weather and great times. We
have a full calendar of activities for the young and
not-so-young.
I am pleased to report that we have joined the World Wide Web. We
have an official web site that will help us keep everyone up to
date with all of our activities. Our calendar of events is posted
on the site. If you have access to the internet check us out at:
www.babcocklake.net.
With the economy still faltering we are again going to be
financially challenged, but we’re doing everything we can to keep
our expenses under control. For example, we have e-mailed our
membership packet to all that have e-mail addresses listed with us
thereby saving a considerable amount of postage. Please provide us
with some feedback; if you are unable to open any of the
attachments let us know.
As one of our fundraisers this year we’re selling great looking
beer and wine glasses with our logo etched into the glass. Attached
is a picture of both. The wine glasses are available for $8.00 each
or $30.00 for a set of four. The 20-ounce beer glasses can be
purchased for $15.00 each. For another $10.00 you can have your
name engraved on your beer glass and we’ll store it for you at the
center in our new cabinet. If we sell enough glasses, we’ll raise
some cash to help pay for our programs and events while saving on
the cost of plastic cups.
Sending our membership packet electronically and making glasses
available is our attempt at going Green and helping out the
environment.
Our first regular membership meeting is scheduled for Friday, June
26th at 8:00 PM. Program sign-ups will be held immediately after
the meeting, so please try to attend if you plan on enrolling
anyone in the swim or archery programs. Hard copies of the calendar
will be available after the meeting.
There are some terrific new additions to the calendar this year,
such as a Water and Boating Safety Program scheduled for July 8th.
We are also bringing back an old favorite…the Regatta, which
returns to the lake July 19th. New this season too will be Friday
night dinner specials at the center. Your Friday nights can be made
stress-free—let us do the cooking for you. Our annual Senior Dinner
is planned for Saturday, June 20th at the center. This year there
will be a small fee charged ($5.00 per person) for this event,
which is open to all seniors from our lake community. The season
comes to a close Saturday, October 10th with a covered dish social.
Be sure to look over the attached events calendar and try to join
us for as many as you can. Volunteers are always welcome and we
encourage you to offer your time and/or talent to help us with any
scheduled event.
If you’d like to chair a party, please let a board member know as
soon as possible to reserve an event date. Ideas for new events are
always welcome; just let any board member know what you have in
mind. Lastly, if you have any questions about BLPOA events or about
the BLPOA in general, please ask me or any other board member.
Thanks to everyone, including family and friends, who helped make
2008 a very successful year. See you all soon for another great
summer.
Mike Martin
BLPOA President
